About Us


Electronic Security Systems and Consultants were Established in 1986 by a group of Directors who recognized a gap in the market for an Independent Quality Service Provider of Integrated Electronic Security Systems.


1999 the name change to Electronic Security Systems and Fire Protection Ltd reflected our ambition to increase our presence in the Fire Alarm Sector, this was followed in 2002 when we were one of the first Scottish companies to gain BAFE Gold approval via the BFPSA (now Fire Industry Association, FIA). In order to continue to provide our Services to the Utilities Market we felt it prudent to apply to the United Vendor Database (UVDB), this accreditation was acquired in 2009.


At present we provide Service and Maintenance Facilities for some of the largest Utilities Companies in the UK, Telecommunications Providers, Primary Care Trust Sites, Major UK Hotel Chains, along with chains of Fashion Stores and Convenience Stores.

Danny Dunsmore

Managing Director

Following his tenure as Regional Director of Scotland and Northern Ireland for Modern Alarms, Danny struck out to become the founding Managing Director of Electronic Security Systems and Consultants Ltd.  During his period at the helm Danny has overseen the continued development of our business from our start-up in 1986 to one of the top performers in our sector.  In 2001 in a bid to drive our ambitions within the Fire Alarm Sector Danny was pivotal in the business gaining the BAFE Accreditation, also rebranding the business to who we are today, Electronic Security Systems and Fire Protection Ltd.

Arthur McErlane

Projects Director

Arthur’s journey in the Security Industry started in 1972, just as the Electronic Security Sector was starting to develop. By 1986 Arthur became one of the founding Directors of our business, since the beginning  Arthur has been key to our Sales Development and Contract Management, establishing himself as our Projects Director in 1997.  Arthur continues to drive our Major Projects ensuring the client’s needs are met and usually exceeded!

Richard Dunsmore

Operations Director

Richard started with Electronic Security Systems and Fire Protection Ltd in 1988 as an Apprentice Alarm Engineer, since then Richard has held Supervisory and Management roles within all areas of the business gaining valuable experience in Systems Design, Service Delivery and Compliance.  Richard has held his current position of Operations Director at ESS since 1997 during which time he has driven the continual growth and development of the business.

Daniel Dunsmore

Business Development Manager

Starting with Electronic Security Systems and Fire Protection Ltd from school in 1991 Daniel has gained valuable experience working within all departments of the company, from technical to design, compliance,  business development and contract management. Daniel is a qualified BAFE Fire Systems Designer and NSI Product Auditor, Daniel is established as our Business Development Manager for Fire and Security products. 

Alan McErlane

Service Delivery Manager

Alan started with the business in 1988 as a Systems Designer, since then Alan has gained valuable experience within the Service and Installation Departments, progressing from the Pre Planned Maintenance Supervisor to his current role as the Service Delivery Manager.  Alan’s technical experience and direct contact with our client’s provides assurance that any reactive or preventative technical visits are dealt with in a swift professional manner.

Stephen Quinn

Project Manager

Stephen started with the business in 1998 as an Apprentice Engineer, since then Stephen has held roles within the Installation and Projects department gaining valuable experience in Technical Design and Project Delivery.  Stephen has held the position of Project Manager since 2014.
